Online Account Opening Frequently Asked Questions

What information do I need to apply for an account online?

You will need your Social Security Number, basic personal and contact information, valid government-issued identification (Driver's License, U.S Passport or State-Issued Photo ID or Tribal ID) If your application includes a co-applicant, they will also need to supply this information.


How can I fund my account?

You can fund your account through debit/credit card, an internal transfer using your existing SouthState account, or fund later with Mobile Deposit, ATM deposits, or by visiting a branch.


What types of SouthState accounts can I open online?

You can open personal Checking, Savings, Health Savings or Money Market accounts online.


Can I save an application and finish it later?

Yes. You can save your application and finish it later. To save an application, click “Finish Later.” To resume an application, visit your Customer Portal.


How much will I need to deposit into my new account?

If you plan to fund your account at the time of account opening, the minimum amount you will need to deposit is $25.


Can I apply for a Business Checking, Savings or Money Market account online?

At this time, we currently do not offer online applications for Business Checking, Savings or Money Market accounts.

If you are interested in a Business Checking, Savings or Money Market account, please visit a SouthState branch.


How long will my application be saved if I have not completed it?

Your online application will be saved for 30 days. After 30 days, your application will expire, and you will need to start a new application.


I do not currently live within the geographic footprint. Can I open an account?

At this time, you must have a physical address in one of SouthState's markets to open an account online.


After my application has been approved, how long will it be saved?

Once your application has been approved, you can visit the Customer Portal within the next 60 days to enroll in Online Banking, view account number(s), agreements, disclosures, and additional details.


I recently opened a SouthState account online, but I do not see the account in my Online/Mobile Banking.

The account should be visible within Online/Mobile Banking immediately. If not, please call us at (800) 277-2175, and we will be happy to assist you.


How long will it take me to open an account online?

Generally, it should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete an application online.


I just opened my account online and would like to add a beneficiary. How do I do this?

To add a beneficiary to your account after the account is opened, you will need to visit your local SouthState branch. You can only add a beneficiary to your account during the application process.


I think I entered incorrect information in my application (name, address, SSN, etc.). What should I do?

If you believe you provided incorrect information on your application, please call us at (800) 277-2175 for assistance.


Can I open a joint account with another person?

Yes. You may add a co-applicant to your application. Your co-applicant will need their Social Security Number, basic personal and contact information, valid government-issued identification (Driver's License, U.S Passport or State-Issued Photo ID or Tribal ID).


What are the age requirements for applying for a SouthState account online?

You must be at least 18 years of age to open an account online. Minors 13-17 years old (or age of majority for state of residence) may open checking accounts only with a parent(s) or guardian as co-applicant.
