A second round of Economic Impact Payments (EIP) are in the process of being distributed by the IRS and Treasury Department as part of the recently passed stimulus bill. Payments will be distributed automatically, with no action required of most people.

Who is eligible for economic impact payments?

Payments will be sent via direct deposit, check or prepaid debit card.When will I receive my Economic Impact payment?
If you are receiving a payment via direct deposit, we will post the deposit to your account as soon as we receive it. Customers receiving a direct deposit could see the payment pending in their account as early as Friday, January 1, 2021.If you are receiving a payment via check, the Treasury Department and IRS have stated that the mailing of checks began on Wednesday, December 30, and will continue to be sent in waves.
If you are receiving a payment via prepaid debit card, the Treasury Department and IRS have stated that the mailing of these cards will begin on Monday, January 4, 2021. More information about these cards is available at EIPcard.com.
How will the IRS know where to send my payment?
The IRS will use the information already on file to send Economic Impact Payments. If you have direct deposit information on file with the IRS and are eligible to receive a payment, you will likely receive it via direct deposit.If you do not have direct deposit information on file and are eligible to receive a payment, you will likely receive it via check or prepaid debit card.
Note: The method through which you receive the second Economic Impact Payment could differ from the method through which you received a payment the first time.

The IRS urges taxpayers to be on the lookout for scam artists trying to use the economic impact payments as cover for schemes to steal personal information and money. Remember, the IRS will not call, text you, email you or contact you on social media asking for personal or bank account information – even related to the economic impact payments. Also, watch out for emails with attachments or links claiming to have special information about economic impact payments or refunds.
