Is Your Mobile Device Secure?

The number of attacks on mobile devices is growing, in part, as a result of the increased popularity of mobile banking.

At SouthState, we recommend customers take extra precaution to protect the data on their mobile devices. Here are some helpful tips.
  • Use the passcode lock on your smartphone and other devices. This will make it more difficult for thieves to access your information if your device is lost or stolen.
  • Log out completely from mobile banking.
  • Tell us if you change your phone number or lose your mobile device. Call us at (800) 277-2175 or visit a local branch to update your information.
  • Protect your phone from viruses and malicious software, or malware, by installing mobile security software.
  • Don’t share personal or financial information while connected to public WiFi. Public connections aren’t secure, so if you need to access your account, disable WiFi and use your mobile network.
  • Report any suspicious activity to your bank right away. There are several ways for you to reach out to us. Send us a secure message through Online Banking, call us during regular business hours at (800) 277-2175, or contact us through our website here.
  • Use caution when downloading apps. Apps can contain malicious software, worms and viruses. Be careful with apps that ask for unnecessary permissions.
  • When prompted, download and update.
  • Avoid storing sensitive information, like passwords or social security numbers, on your mobile devices.
  • Be aware of people around you. The most basic form of information theft is observation. Be aware of your surroundings especially when you’re typing sensitive information.
  • Erase all information from your mobile device before donating, selling or trading it in. You can use specialized software or the manufacturer’s recommendations. Some software allows you to wipe your device remotely if it is lost or stolen.
  • Beware of mobile phishing. Avoid opening links and attachments in emails and texts from senders you don’t know.
